Do you recall your worst wipe out or hold down where you experienced that strong urge to breathe? This urge to breath is real and can be uncomfortable. In the majority of hold downs, that overwhelming desire to take a breath has little to do with the amount of oxygen we have at that moment. In most cases, it’s a high level of carbon dioxide which is a trigger that makes you want to breathe. Combine that with stress, anxiety and an increased heart rate and it could lead to panic, blackout or drowning if not properly managed. How much value would there be if you could extend that urge to breathe longer and safely? In the two day Waterman Survival Course, I will teach students how to effectively and safely hold their breath longer and be prepared to assist during a breath hold related emergency. This is a classroom and pool only course.
